Over the course of two weeks, I spent 2500 miles on the road exploring America's heartland. I traveled what used to be Rt. 66 from Amarillo, Texas to Barstow, California. I have told friends and family that sometime I was going to post the photos in a blog and share them with everyone. Here's to that. Route 66/I-40 is littered with cool sites and spots, including lots and lots of old cars and museums. Detailed in the photos are a museum at Russell's Truck and Travel Center. Set up as classic rest stop and grocery store just across the New Mexico border coming from Texas, the rest stop also features a collector's dream collection of classic cars, collectible cars, and something that peaked my interest was the cars from the various gas station companies that I had once collected myself. The old style Hess and Sunoco die cast trucks and collectible race cars. These vintage car museums have a decent amount of old style coca cola machines, the polar bears, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis photos and statues, and Elvis' pink convertible (most likely a replica).
